Portraits on Main Street - the complete works

By profiling the lives, personalities, and compassion of shopkeepers Portraits on Main Street encourages open conversation around identity, environment, community and the futures of these downtowns. I believe this living testament is casting Nova Scotia main streets in a meaningful way to residents and visitors alike.

Who is a Stranger? a collaboration between Damian Lidgard, Órla MacEachern and Hannah Minzloff.

On the evening of Nocturne 2014, we invited people to leave their comfort zone and walk into our pop-up studio to meet a stranger.

Portraits on Main Street is a look at five Nova Scotian neighbourhoods through portraits photographic portraits of business owners in their places of work on the main street of each town.

The exhibition of the Dartmouth Suite was made possible by funding from Nova Scotia Communities, Culture and Heritage.

A dynamic installation of 9 large colour photographs in a public space, each photograph in the RoadWorks exhibition captures a different scene of summer road construction crews, illustrating the collaborative nature of the work they undertake. The photographs represent the every-day moments when the ordinary person and the work they do become extraordinary.

Among the Vanities–Portraits of the Photographers, is an exhibition of portraits where the models are photographers who are current members of ViewPoint Gallery.

The object of any good portrait is to capture something of the character of the person being photographed. This sometimes hidden side of a portrait can make a picture go from ordinary to amazing. In this case, since the subjects are themselves photographers, each portraits seeks to incorporate something of the subjects own style into the final image. The result is a unique collaboration between model and photographer.

UNDERGROUND consists of 22 panoramic B&W photographs — shot in 2007 — of underground transit systems in North America and Europe including Toronto, Montreal, London, Paris, Munich and Barcelona.

A triptych, a tapestry of light. Each piece in I fell in love... is comprised of 20 colour RC prints mounted on foam core. With this exhibition, I break into new territory with my work. The way I feel about and respond to my photographs is changing, which in turn changes the way I present them. Attracted by the repetition, light and structure within these experiences, I was driven to capture the emotion they generated in me.

Antiques & Good Conversation: 15 34x35" framed giclée prints tell a story that denotes the chaos in our lives and an eventual journey to serenity. The artifacts and people depicted in the photographs represent moments in the daily life and ritual layers of Japanese society.

The SUB-URBIA project began in 1992 with the arrival of my first Diana - a simple plastic camera weighing nearly the same as the roll of 120 film loaded in it. The exhibition consists of 11 framed colour RC prints. These photographs represent the traces of objects created and then left behind/discarded by inhabitants of Toronto. The exhibition is a collaboration with my friend and fellow artist Suzanne Merrett.
